For 23 years, addiction was the driving force behind my decisions. It took my peace, my dignity, my relationships, and eventually left me homeless with little more than the clothes on my back. I watched opportunities disappear, trust erode, and dreams fade into survival mode. There were countless moments when it seemed easier to give up than to keep fighting. Addiction convinced me that the wreckage of my life was permanent, and for a long time, I believed it.

But recovery had a different plan. One day at a time, one decision at a time, I began rebuilding what addiction had destroyed. Today, I stand with 41 months of sobriety;  a milestone earned through hard work, humility, accountability, and faith. Recovery didn’t hand me a new life overnight; it taught me how to build one. I learned that success wasn’t found in grand gestures but in doing the next right thing, even when no one was watching. The same man who once lost everything now wakes up with purpose and gratitude for another sober day.

My greatest victory isn’t measured in months sober, a roof over my head, or the stability I have regained. It’s found in the opportunity to be a father again. Today, I am present where addiction once made me absent. I am dependable, where I once was unpredictable. I am building memories instead of making excuses. My story is proof that no matter how far addiction drags a person down, recovery can lift them higher than they ever imagined. The man who once lost everything now spends his days doing the next right thing and, in doing so, has found a life worth living.
