Suggested Literature for Newcomer Packets

AA’s First Step is, “We admitted we were powerless over alcohol – that our lives had become unmanageable.”

This is a hard step to take. Many people new to AA have difficulty with it and struggle with the idea that AA can help them. The good news is that AA has Literature that can help them. For those new to AA, literature packets can be made to help them understand our program of recovery. The Area 26 Literature Committee has created a list of suggested AA literature that can be used to create newcomer packets.

The program of Alcoholics Anonymous is explained in the Big Book of Alcoholics Anonymous and it is best to use this book as the main source of information. More information is given in the book Twelve Steps & Twelve Traditions and can be used as a supplementary to the Big Book.

This list is designed to give basic information to help the newcomer understand different aspects of the AA program. This list is not definitive, the Area 26 Literature Committee suggests that each sponsor, group and district use this list as a guide and add or subtract pamphlets to fit the demographic of their members.
